Bike Setup for Great Divide
« on: September 21, 2009, 01:05:02 pm »
I plan on riding the Great Divide next year and currently have a 2006 Novara Safari.  After seeing videos of some of the route with rocks and large pieces of gravel should I have a front suspension fork mounted to save wear and tear on my body and equipment?  Will a front suspension fork help with handling?  If you do advise installing a suspension fork which one should I get?  Or!  Should I just keep on the steel fork as spec'd and go with bigger tires?

Would I have been better off getting a steel Gunnar Rock Tour for the Great Divide?

  Thank you!

I rode the GDR in 2005 (see http://www.carsstink.org/peterson/Turtle/MountainTurtle.html) with a rigid fork and never felt the need for a suspension fork. I'll be riding the route again (adding the Canadian section this time) and again I'll be on a rigid bike.
