Emergency Cassette Lock Ring Removal

The other day my chain dropped off the small cog and jamed between the lock ring and dropout. Behold the lock ring loosened. So in an emergency I guess you could try loosing the skewer and putting the chain between the cassette lockring and the dropout and tighten the skewer backup. Turn the wheel by hand and see if you can it loosens the lockring that way.

Now I have not actually purposely tried this because I generally carry a Stein tool, but it may work in an emergency situation.

Interesting discovery, but I don't think I'd want to rely on that working when I needed it to. If I ever get into a true emergency, however, I might give it a try.
