TOURING BIKE FOR SALE:
(REI) Novara Safari Mountain Bike set up for serious touring: 20" Frame, w/Disk brakes, wireless odometer, Brooks Saddle, Front & Back racks (custom fit), Handlebar Bag (Novara), Front & Back fenders (custom fit), Red Arkel Panniers 2-GT54 & 2-GT18, All panniers have both inner & outer waterproof covers so nothing will get wet, two-sided pedals (clip-in one side, regular pedal other side), add'l reflector tape on bicycle for dusk/dawn/night riding.

I purchased this bicycle in Feb 2008 from REI, spent a month customizing it for an 800 mile tour, did the tour and ended up with prostate problems. As much as I want to do another tour, the body just won't allow it. Rather than let the almost new touring bike to gather any more dust, I've decided to sell it to someone who wants a great touring bike. God just doesn't want me bicycling any more.

Are sure that you are not giving in too early?  

There are a lot of prostrate friendly things that you can do.  Saw palmetto is a good herbal supplement that will shrink the size of a prostrate.  There are leather saddles with cut-outs.  Got to

I have both one of his modified Brook's B.17 saddles and his Wisconsin saddles.  I am more impressed with the B.17, but a friend of mine is more impressed with the Wisconsin saddle.

I would hate to see you give up something that you obviously love.[

Been there, done it, got the T-shirt, and even wrote about it.  Tried a cut-out saddle - even had prostate issues using a recumbent. Thanks for the encouragement tho.

I am doing a cross country ride (Ft. Lauderdale, FL - Seattle, WA) in May of '09 and am looking for all the equipment.  I may be interested in your bike but I'm only 5'9 - is it built for a tall dude?

The seat can come down at least 4-6 inches. That shouldn't be a problem for you. The current seat stem has a shock absorber so if you were to go with a regular stem, it could come down even further.

Your concern Dennis would be the top bar straddle height. The Top Bar is about 31"-32" off the ground (it has a slight slope). When I straddle the bar, there are 3" between my crotch and the bar and that increases when I use clip-in shoes.

You might try going to a bicycle shop and measuring the top bar height of some bicycles to see if straddling a 31"-32" bar from the ground will work for you.

No sale yet. The panniers stay with the bike so it can be sold to someone looking for a complete touring setup. If it doesn't sell by spring, I may do a short tour and will need the panniers. Thanks for asking though.

Was wondering if you have made a sale yet and whether, or not, you have reconsidered selling the panniers separate. I have a tour coming up in a month and still need bags. Let me know if you've changed your mind, or if you no longer have any of it.
