Portable Piano/Keyboard Recommendations?
« on: January 25, 2010, 10:34:28 am »
My wife and son do not wish to lose out on piano practice while on our tour. Anyone have a recommendation for a small portable piano? I've seen a bunch of older Yamaha Portasounds on ebay and Target sells small Casio keyboards, but would love to hear if another rider has brought something like this on tour.
Thanks, Erik

I can't imagine any device that would be much use for piano practice weighing little enough that I would carry it on a tour.  How much are you willing to carry?  Don't those Portasounds weigh something like 12 pounds?  If so I would be cussing it every inch of the way.

How long are you going to be out on tour??   A week or two, months.  They weight a lot and how would you protect the key board from the rain, all the bouncing around it will  need to endure on the tour. How will you carry some thing that big.  Ask a church if you could have some  practice time then give them a small concert,or a donation. Good Luck

The small ones with only 30 or so keys only weigh a couple of pounds. We will be on tour for 5 months which is plenty of time to get rusty.

Possible was to protect the key board.  Take a closed cell foam sleeping pad. Like the ones used in backpacking and wrap it around the keyboard.  Then put into a dry bag, like the ones they use for canoeing and kayaking.  Good luck MI BIKER
