generator hubs + phones
« on: June 25, 2009, 01:44:55 am »
I've been taking a look at generator hubs and met a few people who have them. There made to power lights but I'm more interested in powering my 5v PPC phone. How incoveinet would it be to rig one of these hubs to power a phone. Also has anyone had any experience with them with there made-for purpose?
"Why do you work in a bike shop if you don't like to ride?"
"Well I can't fix my grades, I can't fix my relationships and I can't fix my pessimism. I'll stick with fixing bikes"

"Well pedicaber, your cadence is . . . half that of mine"

7 ppl on a pedicab > half a ton. been there ridden that

I have used the Shimano generator hub for the past 3 years.  Older Schmidt halogen lights.  Works just fine.  Newer LED lights are supposedly even brighter.

Above is a thread going on in Google about using the generator hub to power mobile phones and batteries.  Might be useful, might not.

Do a search on www.bikeforums.net for "charger" in the Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets forum.  Lot's of people have been doing this.

If you're interested in powering from your hub, Busch & Müller just released this technical wonder:

EXPENSIVE! I'm holding off...just can't justify the expense until I hear about some testing, reviews, etc.
