Maine Campgrounds
« on: December 04, 2009, 12:50:30 pm »
Looking for info in campgrounds in Maine off the beaten path (along coast) that cyclists have actually been to.
Have all the guides, need first hand info.

Thanks

We stayed in campgrounds listed in the ACA maps.  Always friendly, but certainly more expensive than elsewhere on the Northern Tier.  Then again, it was August. What do you want to know?

Which cam[grounds spec.? along w/RV'rs/tent only places?  I have the ACA map and am looking for the info for places off the main roads.  I noticed several campgrounds that don't show up on the ACA maps

As I recall, most campgrounds were not exclusive tenting.  Most had a tenting area and an RV area.

I've stayed twice at Mt Desert Campground (on Mt Desert Island, location of Acadia Nat'l Park).  Nice wooded sites, quiet, very clean bathrooms.

If you are going to be following the AC Atlantic Coast route, Brandbury Mtn. State Park outside of Freeport is nice.
