I was going to switch from AT&T to Verizon, until my mother came to visit in October. Her cell phone is Verizon, and it turns out we live in one of those "white splotches" on the fabled Verizon map; No signal at all until you get about 10 miles south of town, towards the Twin Cities. With AT&T, on the other hand, I get 5 bars/3G where I live, but on the Lewis and Clark in South Dakota, I get zilch between Yankton and Ft. Randall Dam.

C'est la vie,
Hans

We had phones by Verizon, T-mobile and AT&T. Verizon had the best coverage, it didn't always have coverage, but it was generally solid. Most of the little towns had coverage. The t-mobile phone seemed to beat out AT&T but not by much. With both of these we got some coverage virtually every day.

Forget Sprint..coverage is horrible....I have both Sprint (work) and Verizon (personnel) phones. I travel to all fifty states and I'm happy with Verizon.  I've had some experience with AT&T and was pleased with that service as well.

On the Trans America when we didn't have a Verizon signal we generally didn't have a signal at all.  The one exception I noticed was the Riggins Idaho area and the carrier there was another one of "the national mega-telecom companies" (AT&T).

I think that was my experience in 2003 on the TA.  But I'd emphasize the no signal areas were everywhere.  I'd say large part of middle/eastern Oregon and much of Idaho.  Maybe coverage is better now but Verizon still colored most of the northwest as covered.  Not really the case.

That being said, I just got a Droid to stick with Verizon.  I would have gotten an iPhone if that was on Verizon but there are a few iPhoners in my family.  They all have problems here in the NE.  If AT&T can't provide coverage in the area of its former world headquarters, what would I expect in areas where it never had a strong presence.

I have Verizon. I rarely use my cellphone except when traveling and not much then. However, it has always worked for me - never failed to get a signal.

I just used Net 10 across the southern tier of states, Florida to California. Only three places where I tried did not have the service, Ocala National Forest in Florida, Jacumba CA, and Pine Valley, CA. There could be more holes in the net, but those three are all I am sure of.
