Rashes and detergents

Hi guys and gals!
I am planning to do the Southern Tier this April/May. There is one concern that bugs me - I have a tendency for rashes in the groin and thigh areas and I do know how to take care of them during the year in terms of Balmex and other zinc-oxyde creams, antibacterial soap, etc. However, since I am convinced that the rashes are caused by bacteria in the pant pads, I wonder if you guys could give me some useful tips in terms of washing the pants during the trip. I am planning to change pants once a day, and my question is - what kind of deterent should I use? I searched for antibacterial ones but really did not come up with anything useful. I hear that antibacterial handsoap and dish detergent may be used, and I also came across a blog which recommended Shout. I am not sure how to use Shout, since it is a stain remover.
Any good tips would be really appreciated

Hi Joe,
not sure if it helps but will tell you how I keep fit down there.
By pants I assume you mean riding shorts 'cos you don't want to be wearing anything under them. Yes were possible get them washed out every night and I use medicated hair shampoo! Ensure they are well rinsed and dry also.  Use anti-fungal powder in the morning.

I find that the best ones for staying OK are the ones lined with chamois, not the thickly padded sort. I use a sheepskin cover on the saddle as this also helps to keep you cool.  Every opportunity I get during the ride I use a anti bacterial wet wipes and more powder. (best not in public  )  I never found creams any help.

Good luck as it is miserable if you do have these problems.

Can you get Assos cream in the States?   Generally regarded as extremely good in preventing rashes, sores etc.   In addition to application to the skin, it can also be used on the chamois to help in extreme conditions.

Baby powder might help too.
