GREAT FAMILY EVENT IN WILLIAMSBURG, VA
« on: February 18, 2010, 07:27:22 pm »
On May 1, the Williamsburg (VA) Area Bicyclists and the Colonial National Historical Park will host the 14th Annual Pedal the Parkway.  The Colonial Parkway is part of the Colonial National Historical Park and stretches from the Yorktown, VA battlefield where Lord Cornwallis surrendered to Jamestown Island, the sight of the first permanent English colony in North America.  From 8 am to 1 pm the nine mile portion of the Parkway between Jamestown and Williamsburg is closed to motor vehicles so bicyclists of all ages, shapes and sizes can enjoy cycling this scenic stretch which parallels the James river without worrying about cars.  There are kids on trikes, on bikes with training wheels, parents, grandparents, dudes and dudettes on racing bikes, casual riders, riders on big trikes, blind riders as stokers on tandems…..between 1,200 and 1,550 participants enjoying a casual Saturday morning ride together.  There is a Bicycle Skills Rodeo for the kids (and some adults), free helmets for those without and a rest stop with snacks and beverages.  Complete information available at www.wabonline.org.
