Garmin and The Mac
« on: March 13, 2010, 07:11:45 pm »
Wanted to download the Trip Waypoint Manager that came with my Garmin 60CSx and noticed that it is not Mac compatible. What about their maps? Will I have the same problem? I want maps for a European trip I will be doing next month. I do have use of a PC at work, but that limits me to anything other than downloading from a DVD at work, leaving me unable to work at home. Any suggestions? Thanks.  8)

Hi -- I just responded to your other thread -- download BaseCamp and MapInstall from Garmin's web site here:  http://www8.garmin.com/macosx/index.jsp

You could always install VMWare Fusion and run (dare I say) Windows on your Mac. This is what I do and it works great. Sadly Garmin and Polar are lacking when it comes to Mac software.

Where are you going?

My wife and I are headed over in May-June to Germany, but we'll be riding from Czech to Krakow, Poland then heading south through Slovakia and into Budapest.

I am running MapInstall, POILoader, and RoadTrip, all free downloads from Garmin, and yes, they all run just fine on a Mac.  Unlike on a PC, you have to ignore the instruction to be sure to install the USB drivers first...
