Transamerica Gear/Packing List

Looking for a detailed/thorough gear list for a transamerica trip. Hoping to travel May/June, and have zero experience with bike touring. So looking for any/all suggestions on what's needed gear-wise to do the trip. Really appreciate it.

Go to crazyguyonabike.com and click on the forums tab.  There is a gear list there that was posted on the last three days that is exceedingly complete using an excel spreadsheet.  It allows you to enter weights and location of each item, so that you can plan your loading in advance.   There is also a section in CGOAB that has equipment lists that have been used by people who have been out there touring.  Another source is right here at ACA under the "how to" section--there is a good packing list there.

Hi David,
Adventure Cycling has a great Handbook with a detailed checklist (page 15) of the items you may need on a self supported long tour...you can modify to meet personal needs/preferences but it is a great starting point. Also, you can Google "The Ten Essentials" and modify that as well.  Have a great tour!

This would be my first trip also and i am traveling with my dad. He is also big on lightweight packing for his hiking long distance. So if your going on very long trip and you don't want to suffer while your killing your legs on big hills go lightweight on clothes, tools for the bike etc so it will be a piece of cake up the hills and everyone has fun riding the bike.
