Fundraising?

Howdy all,  I am an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran and the president of the University of Nevada Reno's Wolfpack Veteran organization.  Since coming home from overseas I have become a cycling convert, and am planning a tour soon (Reno to Salt Lake).  I would like to use touring (at least once a year) as a way to raise money for our student veteran organization (we provide scholarships to children of service members killed in combat as well as donations to organizations such as the Wounded Warrior Project). Does anyone have any ideas on how to turn a tour into a fundraising event?
