utah cliffs loop
« on: February 14, 2010, 10:39:51 pm »
hi, i was wondering if anyone had a better map showing the general outline of the utah cliffs loop. the one online is kinda small and doesn't show anything except the major roads.

Thanks

If you purchase the download pdf version it has all the detail that their regular "paper" maps have.  You will need this detail since the route uses some poorly marked roads and trails.  The route is about 50% off road.  Some of the off road sections are a hard packed dirt but some have some loose sand and gravel.

so, i ended up getting the map. however, it looks like the route would be much more enjoyable if the route was reversed. the climbs would be spread out more...

Is there any way to get reverse route directions?

Hi,

I looked into this and here's what the route researcher had to say:

The route was [planned this direction] so that the big elevation gain comes on pavement (east on 14 from Cedar City), and the big elevation
loss comes on gravel/dirt (Navajo Lake down the North Fork of the Virgin River). This is a great downhill, but I think it would be quite a gruelling uphill.

At this time, the route narratives are not written/available for the reverse direction.

I hope this helps.

I guess it would make sense to make the big climbs on pavement. thanks for pointing that out, i didn't think about that.

Interesting, i would want to do it the other way, climb on dirt, descend on pavement.
