biking from Frankfurt airport to Main River bike route

Hello,

My husband and I are going to be bike touring in Barvaria Germany for about one month - and will fly in and out of Frankfurt airport.  Does anyone have a recommendation on a hotel near the airport that might be willing to store our bicycle boxes.  Also, do you know if there is a bike path from the airport to the Main River?  How is the Main River bike route going East from the airport? (i.e. - is it a trail, roads, trafficy, pleasant?)
Any hints/suggestions will be helpful.

I crossed a lot of european countries and you can be sure that with the netherlands; Germany is a model for cycling road (the worse was sweden ).
Nearly all the main roads are coupled with bicycle road and you don't even have to plan you route.

Joan and Darren, I lived in Germany four years and not too far from Frankfurt for two of those years. The Main Radweg is very easily accessible. My suggestion would be to assemble your bikes at the airport and then board the S-bahn to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station, about 10 mins). There are several hotels very near the train station and they would probably be accommodating. From the main trainstation you head due north about three blocks to the Main River, walk your bike down the stairs (ramp for that purpose!) mount up and pedal east (hang a right) and enjoy a very good bike trip. I have some good materials in German as well that I would be willing to share.

Highly recommend Aschaffenburg's Schloss Johannisburg, downtown Wurzburg, and Miltenburg (a very charming little semi-walled town in a huge bend in the Main). I also recommend Dionysius, perhaps the best Greek food in Germany right beside the Main River in Aschaffenburg.

here is the website for the mainradweg, in German but if you have any questions I will gladly translate. the Mainradweg is a completely separate bike path for the vast majority of its length that parallels the river. it also connects with some other bike trails.

I have gone some good distances on the Main River Bikepath. I liked it very much. I have detailed vivid descriptions of it in my manuscript from a 4500 mile tour I did in 1994 through France, Germany, Czech, Poland, Ukraine, Moldav, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, and the east coast of the United States. It goes through sunny fields and trees and small beer gardens, immaculately trimmed lawns, and is right next to the river in many places. Many younger people were out cycling with loaded touring bikes going from hostel to hostel. If the Frankfurt hostel is still in the same place, it is a short distance from the hauptbahnhof and is on or very near the Main. Call them. Maybe they can take bikes.

If you haven't already looked at it, got to crazyguyonabike.com.  Under the "trikes" section in the "journals" column on the left hand side of the home page is a journal by a couple who are currently touring Bavaria on a pair of ICE trikes.  Might be some information there that you could use as well.
