ACA maps availability?
« on: May 16, 2010, 11:04:39 pm »
Have read of people ordering their ACA maps.  I'd somehow assumed they'd be on sale in bike shops/REI stores and would be able to pick up what I needed when l arrive in the US.  Is ordering the only way to get them? Seems likely as they have different prices for members/non members. If so, that might be tricky from SE Asia.

Hi Sanuk,

As far as I know, the only ways to buy the maps are at the office in Missoula or by mail from them. The ordering page on the Adventure Cycling web site shows the lower prices for members. If you buy many maps, it is cheaper to become a member and get some other benefits too.

ACA will mail overseas, probably at higher cost, if you want to study the maps in advance. Or you might use a service of the U.S. Postal Service called General Delivery. You can have items mailed to you at General Delivery in any city and held for up to 30 days until you pick them up. Details at http://www.usps.com/receive/choicesfordelivery/receivemailinotherplaces.htm

I ordered various maps from the UK and they came through within a week.   Membership, as mentioned above, gets you a discount and the magazine is pretty good too.

My local REI does carry a few of the ACA maps, as does my local bike shop--basically just those that pertain to the local area.  I have no idea what it's like elsewhere, but I think pre-ordering would be a good idea
