Is the highway from Vancouver B.C. to Whistler O.K. to ride?

I have been considering this route as part of a tour.  The last time I was on this road was 2003 and in a car.  It seemed busy, and had narrow spots with no shoulders.  I was wondering if anyone knows if they did some improvements to this road for the olympics?

I was on the road in 2005 from Whistler to Vancouver and there was major construction going on for the Olympics.  Hard to tell what the final road would look like.  Have to believe it is better than when you and I rode it way back then.
