TransAm Section 9 2009
« on: July 13, 2009, 05:53:57 pm »
From between Pittsburg, KS and Golden City, MO there is construction going on.  Riders have been allowed to walk bikes through the construction, but depending on the weather it may be muddy and unpassable.  Check in to one of the cities prior to crossing this part of the route for the most current info as well as the suggested southern detour (which adds about 8 miles to the route).  The detour is south of Golden City (on the map you turn north and follow a road for 4 miles into Golden City), so if you aren't interested in seeing Golden City (there isn't much there) just bypass the city altogether and go straight on this road.

I did the detour today (22 Aug 09) EB.  It does not add any miles if one stays on county road K to SR 37, then you are back on course.  I had a nice lunch in Jaspur at Judy's Truck stop.  There is a service station/convienince store as well.
WB, if you do not need to go to Golen City do not turn right on 37.  County road A becomes K and after Jasper H.  Turn right on county road J as the signs direct.

I don't see any notice about work continuing on SR 126 at http://www.modot.org/. You could call them and ask at 1-888-275-6636 if it is scheduled to resume. Or wait until you hit a town just before then and ask locals.

I hope this helps.

I rode through there today. 126 is closed. Detour adds 8 miles. Or you can avoid the extra miles simply by not going north to 126 until after Jasper (westbound) or not returning to 126 after Jasper (eastbound). This, however, skips Golden City and the great pie at Cooky's. I have no idea if you can get through the closure, and you have to ride many miles to find out.
