get NY city
« on: July 30, 2010, 04:43:37 pm »
Helo everybody,
We're a cuople who are cycling to Albany a long the Adiondack loop. Later we'd like to link the Atlantic coast route in Port Jervis to finish in NY city. Our question if we can cycle to Manhatan. Does the route finish in Newwark or NY? We are also interested to buy the map of that route, how long do you take to send me to Albany?
Thank in advance.

The New York City spur of the Atlantic Coast route ends in Summit NJ, ten miles west of Newark.

To order maps and learn about shipping options to Albany, see the "Shop Our Store" page of the Adventure Cycling Association web site. If you are in a hurry, call them right now before they close for the weekend at 5 pm Mountain Standard Time: (800) 721-8719.

You can most certainly cycle into Manhattan using the George Washington Bridge. Check this map out for details

Years ago I was transfered from St. Louis to Summit, N.J. If you don't want to ride to NYC, you could take the NJ Transit Train directly to Penn Station, (don't take the one to Hoboken) which will let you out at 32rd street and 7th Avenue. You could also take the E Train, on the NYC Subway, from the 8th Avenue side of the station to 53rd and 5th Avenue. I have ridden from a house I owned in E. Hanover, N.J. to NYC via the G.W. Bridge. I was not thrilled riding through Patterson, N.J and Harlem to get to lower Manhattan, however I am still here to write about it.  ;)

Just take 9W down to the George Washington Bridge and cross it into Manhattan. When I lived in Hoboken for a few months I used to bicycle up 9W on the weekends to keep my sanity. It's one of my favorite bicycling roads. All the cars use the adjoining interstate and the trucks on 9W are no problem.

Depending on what route you take and where you end up in NYC between 67-77 miles.
