Where in the World to Ride in Early April?
« on: January 02, 2010, 08:40:58 pm »
My husband and I are planning a ride for early April and are looking for suggestions. We have two weeks and want to ride somewhere which will not be too cold, too wet or too hot; not too hilly either. We're in our early 40s and this will be our second bike tour. If we can camp in proper camping grounds with some facilites (toilets, showers) at least 70% of the time we'll camp otherwise we'll stay in modest accommodation (hostels, guesthouses, motels). We'd like to ride 40-60 miles per day (with some days off) through attractive contryside but including towns and cultural sites. We live in Sydney, Australia - where my husband will travel from -- but I'll be coming from a work thing in the United States. We're willing to consider just about anywhere in the world that will meet our requirements -- thanks in advance for your suggestions

What about Portugal or southern Spain?   Quite nice at that time of year and plenty of tourist facilities.  If you wanted somewhere different, Morocco, there are plent of companies offering guided and supported tours in those parts.

Have a look at www.cyclingholidays.org which is the organised tour holidays of the Cyclists Touring club in the UK.   They have a 2 week tour, 10 - 25 April in Spain.

Have fun

Florida, some great long distance Rails to Trails routes. Combine with ACA's route planner.

UK can be nice that time of the year.  I guess not as you might just get fed up with being reminded who won the ashes once and RP's duck today.

But can't go wrong with Spain or one of the islands Majorca.

My favourite would be Malaysia - what a great place that is to cycle.

The Texas Hill Country is beautiful in early spring. There's a good reason why Adventure Cycling does their supported tour there in mid-April. It's worth considering.

Wherever you go, don't go anywhere near SE Asia.  In April it's cooking.  But I've heard Taiwan is going green these days and very much into cycling.  They manufacture Trek bikes and have a gowing bike industry. Also Japan doesn't get much coverage as a cycling destination despite some beautiful scenery.  I wonder why.
