Accomodation in Portland

This is my first post here so not sure how it works.  We are meeting in Portland to start Transam.  Looking for bike friendly accomodation (motel/hotel/guest house) to spend a few days sorting ourselves out as we are flying in from Australia and UK.  anyone have any suggestions/past experience of where we might stay or look for accomodation Big Rod

We stayed at the the TravelLodge which I think was on 82nd.  It was nice and they were accommodating.

Lots of stuff to see and do in Portland...

Get breakfast at Cameo's... this great if kind of weird place on 82nd.

Travel Lodge on 82nd was an okay place, especially if you want a pool.  The owner gets a little sensitive about bicycles in the room, but I explained that my bike was my only means of transportation.  He finally relented.

And Cameo's is definitely one of the best, quirkiest breakfasts in PDX.

I live in Portland and would be happy to host you as your sort out for departure.  You would have your own room, plus a locked, attached garage in which to store and work on your bikes.  I have workstands and just about every tool you could need.  I am on warmshowers.org or you can contact me directly (waynemyer at gmail dot com).

To throw another one out there- there is the HI-Hawthorne Hostel on SE Hawthorne Blvd. and 30th Ave. Dorm beds and private rooms. And if you are bike touring you get $5 off a night!

Hawthorne is a cool and very bike friendly area. It's one of the more "Portland" areas of Portland. Staying on 82nd might make you wonder what all the hubub about this town is about. Though I'll admit that the Travelodge is close to the airport.

(Full disclosure: the Hawthorne Hostel is my day job, that is, when I'm not on the bike!)

I think this is a great thread. Here we have a mate from down-under looking for info on America's bicycling mecca. And he gets good, informed information and offers of assistance.
