Legget to Santa Barbara for our Swiss friends?
« on: September 04, 2010, 01:11:51 am »
We have some very dear friends visiting from Switzerland.  They are currently in British Columbia and will eventually be here with us in Orange County.  They would like to make part of their trip south to us by bike.  They would like to ride about 1000km.  I was thinking that this stretch would be pretty spectacular for them.  What do you all think?  Any other suggestions or thoughts on this route?  I would be giving them the AC route maps for this stretch.  Thanks!

Oh, they will be starting this tour about two weeks from now.

That was some of my favorite riding for the whole Pacific coast.  I also liked it north of there up to the Oregon boundary, in other words pretty much all of Cal.  My favorite day was Big Sur to San Simeon.
May the wind be at your back!

Thank you both for your responses.  One of the reasons for this recommendation was my trip many years ago from San Francisco to Orange County on Highway 1.  The ride south of Santa Barbara wasn't my favorite.  I agree that stretch from Big Sur to San Simeon is great!  We hope that our friends have a safe and enjoyable time.  I just checked out the maps from AC.  I wish I had them back when I did my trip down the coast.

Well, my friends are back in Switzerland with some great memories.  They didn't get to do the whole trip due to some medical problems that arose.  But, they did enough to want to come back and do more sometime in the future.  Thanks again!  Now it's our turn to plan a European tour!
