A Good, Fullsize Folding Bike

Hey guys,

Does anyone have a good brand of folding bike? Preferably something fullsize...

It would be great to have a bike that could be easily moved. I've been looking at a few brands and the "Paratrooper" seems to be the best option so far:


If anyone has any insight on this I'd be really appreciative.

Thanks for your other post re shrink wrapping and although I have no knowledge on this subject just wanted to follow it - & to reply is the only way I can find to do this, so apologies for jumping in like this.

Bike Friday (although the wheels are small) and an S&S coupled bike are the normal responses.  What do you want the bike for?  Why does it need to fold?

Most bicycles move pretty easily.    But I guess that is not what you meant...

It might fold up, but that Paratrooper won't be within regular luggage size and you will still have to pay an oversized luggage charge if you are flying with it. Most airlines have a checked baggage limit of 62 total inches (H+W+D) and the specs for that bike folded but unpacked is 76 inches. Even the Samsonite Flite case for Bike Friday is an inch or two over the limit, but close enough that they don't notice. I also have doubts whether the geometry of that Paratrooper is suitable for loaded touring.

The Dahon Espresso comes to mind.  Perhaps the Dahon Glide or Ios might suit.

The Airnimal is a good option.  Calhoun Cycle in Minneapolis carries them.

Ritchey makes a road and cyclocross bike with their take apart system.  Not folding exactly, but the bike comes apart into smaller pieces.  Competitor of the S&S couplers.

 Check out the new "Surly Long Haul Trucker Deluxe" frame for 26" wheels that comes with S&S couplers. A great touring frame.

You might check out Ravello Bikes.  They make cool, fullsize aluminum road bikes that come apart to fit in suitcases.  Their website www.ravellobikes.com says they can also retrofit just about any bike, including aluminum and carbon.  I think they use the smaller S&S coupler suitcases, which aren't considered oversized by the airlines.

Have any of you ridden a Cruzbike? What about torque steer from pedal forces? Not sure it would be acceptable for any kind of touring or hilly rides.
