C & O

I'm doing the C&O this October. I planned on using a Rivendell Sam with 35's. Is this a good choice or would a mountain bike or hybrid be better?

I think you should be fine with 700x35 tires. I rode it with 26x1.25 inch road tires, which are about the same at 35s. If it's wet, though, a tire with a more aggressive tread would be better.

I rode the GAP but I have heard some remarks about the C&O.  From what I hear, your biggest worry is what to do if it rains.  The C&O gets quite muddy.  You are going late in the season, so it should be dry enough.  Just hope it does not rain.

that's a great bike and tire choice for the c&o.  i've ridden in many times with 35mm touring tires.  you might take a look at the website below for some useful information about the path, what to see and do along the way, camping motels water and food.  have a great trip -- jeff
