Getting Blog Readership....
« on: December 13, 2010, 12:20:12 am »
What is the best, no cost, way to advertise my trip blog?

I'm really just trying to get folks to  read it and offer some feedback so that I can learn from others....

Hey, Popeye: This is a tough one.  Short of paying websites and/or other blogs to post yours, I don't know what you can do.  Make it good, and they will come.  One of the most attractive blogs I've read is http://www.ecovelo.info/, but he is a professional design dude and an exceptional photographer.  Part of the game is longevity.  Good, solid work on the web for a while begins to attract readership.  There are so many people doing blogs that the pool of potential readers on any topic is diluted.  I only check a couple myself.  There was an old joke about an infinite number of monkeys on an infinite number of typewriters eventually producing the works of William Shakespeare--and now with the Internet we know this isn't true!

The best way to get readership about a touring trip is to post on Crazyguyonabike, com.  Big fun.

Keep writing and posting.  See what happens.  They key, I think, is to do it for its own sake, because you like writing.

Cheers,

Scott

Make it good, network with other people (not necessarily bloggers), and participate in other more popular blogs that are related.  Don't shill constantly, though.  Make sure your keywords and meta tags are apropos and concise.  Good word of mouth will build readership much faster and more solidly than anything else.

But probably the most critical advice: post consistently.  If you post once per week, make sure you always post once per week.  Nothing kills readership like setting up a schedule and then suddenly posting much less frequently.  It is very hard to bounce back from that shift.

1. Be active on several forums and use the sigature box below for your website (see below ;D). Though dont spam forums all you'll just piss people off ;).
2. Use the social networks like facebook, and ask all your "friends"to spread the word. (feel free to "like"shanecycles.com.....hehe)
3. Crazy guy on a bike has alot of readers try putting something on there (note to self check out cgoab).
4. Have a good blog which is clean, quick loading and easy to read, with good content.
5. Try keeping the text to a minimum, most people just scan blogs unless they need information from your trip (lots of foto's helps imo).

Be nice and make people laugh.

Good luck......
