You know I am a fan of solo rides regardless of distance. Go where you want to go, do what you want to do...Mama Cass said it all.

I would allow 8 or nine months for that. That is something to do research on. Here is a general timescale for it.

ST sixty days
Pacific Coast  seven weeks
Atlantic coast thirty days
NT 75 days

Approx. 215 days or 7 months. The extra is for whatever, or no extra.
As for weather, I would say do some research from google. I have sussed it out, but forgot it long ago. Obviously the NT in summer or at least so the ice will have been thawed when you get to the Rockies. E-W on NT, S on PCBR, E on ST, N on ACBR.

I'm a pretty average rider and was 56 when we did the Pacific Coast in just under 4 weeks, hauling all our gear and camping out every night.  I don't see it taking 7 weeks.  We averaged 72 mpd.
May the wind be at your back!

I don't remember how long it took to do the full PCBR. I remember about 28 days from Portland, Oregon to San Diego, but during that time I spent quite a few days sightseeing in San Francisco, L.A., and other cities. Seven weeks must be a bit of a long time to allow for the PCBR. I did it in two separate tours, the last one being in 1993. But I figure a perimeter tour of the US can be done in eight months +- depending on how long one plans to stop and see the sights in various cities and parks, etc. I could do it on $30.00--$35.00 a day putting costs at about $7000.00--$8000.00 total.

My last ST crossing from December 7, 2009 till January 30, 2010 lasted 54 days total, and that included several days I stayed in motels to keep out of record-breaking cold temperatures, and did not cycle at all. You're right. Seven weeks for the PCBR is overshooting the mark. My cycling days for the last ST run were 43 on the road. It depends of the cyclst.

My  estimation on the PCBR was off because it was too long ago for me to remember and I don't have my journal to look at. However, 43 days actually cycling for a complete crossing of the ST is pretty good for a 61 year old guy carring all that winter gear.
