Wear eye glasses/sun glasses while riding

Interesting, I had more trouble finding someone who could do the inserts in my bifocal prescription.  If you haven't already I would check with Sportrx to see what they have to say.  I would advise actually phoning or emailing them, because I got better advice from Rob via email than what I could glean from their web page.  They just might be able to recommend a model that will work for you.  For example, I know that with the Project Rudy Horus model they were able to accommodate my bifocal prescription and I was unable to get that for my inserts.

If he is still there, I would email Rob at rob@sportrx.net next time you need glasses and see what he suggests.

In contacting all the major glasses manufacturers, I found that the curvature of the protective/shaded lense wasn't compatible with my prescription. My Rx lense is paper-thin in the middle and nearly 3/16" at the edge. The frontside is nearly flat. The compound curves of prescription sunglasses can't accommodate the shape I need. I wear Rudy Project Rydon and the thickness at the edge of even that small-sized insert is alarming. With my lense requirements, I usually restrict myself to the smaller-lensed eyeglass styles, so that they don't look like I'm wearing Coke bottles.

I think if you visit the National Training Center in Clermont, someone there could give you reference to partner businesses who deal in optics. Any of the tri-specific cycling shops, around Clermont/Orlando, can help you, too. I'm not from the area, but, I do follow triathlon. There are many pros based out of that training center.

Despite many years of riding and touring and putting up with a sore neck finally figured it out.  I've tried all sorts of adjustments to the bike but it has just dawned on me that my glasses slip down slightly or just block out my upward field of vision causing me to lift my head slightly higher than is natural and I think that this is the cause. However, I don't seem to be able to come up with a solution, does anyone else have this problem, maybe like me you don't even realize it, and what have you done?

One word; recumbent. Your neck will never be sore again. Neither will your nether parts nor wrists. But that's a religious discussion.

I found a lab that will put my lineless bifocal prescription into a full-wrap sportglasses frame. They're expensive, about $600. My eyes are invaluable so it's an investment and the Oakley frames are really nice. I can read my speedo and the map and cuesheet without difficulty and see down the road clearly and check my mirrors just like using my regular bifocals.  The full-wrap protects me from wind and flotsam. The lenses are safety-rated. Any optometrist can hook you up or can refer you to another supplier. Just ask for lenses from Pech Labs.

Before I got these cool Oakleys, I often road with my bifocals behind a pair of Cocoons (cocoonseyewear.com). You can find them at Cabella's for about $70.00 or get cheap knockoffs at Walgreens for about $15.00.

For dog-sledding my wife discovered "Croakies" --- lightweight straps that hold any type of glasses snug and safe, there are other brands, some eyewear shops carry them.

With cycling it's often the little things that count. A rubber band will keep your glasses from slipping.

This is an excellent topic, one given little thought. I can assure you professional riders, look at weight, function, and style. I would be curious, if there is a source to find this information, in regard to the eyewear, they wear.

As crazy as this sound, an interchangeable, (or light sensative) face shield, extending from the helmet, which would serve several functions:

1. Shield your eyes from the light
2. Protect them from road debris
3. When light fades from the dreaded bugs. 

Getting back to reality, you may want to consider the following:

One very effective solution is to ride on a recumbent style bicycle. By riding in a head up position, similar to driving a car, you eliminate neck pain and are able to use just about any sunglass style. Though I prefer polarized cycling sun glasses.

But the OP's symptom of neck pain can be symptomatic of other stuff. Talk to a sports medicine doctor a bicycling-specific physical therapist. Putting up a with any discomfort on a bike is silly, given that the solution is readily available, but living with the pain of a sore neck (and blaming it on your bike) is totally unnecessary.

There is a lab that specializes in bifocals in sports glasses. Not every optical shop does business with them but they'll sell to any professional glasses supplier. Ask around for PECH Labs. they may not be able to accommodate your extremely pwerful Rx, all you have to do is call them.

Thanks guys for all the input, decided to go for the wrap around goggle type with my prescription, cost about 1/3 of my bike!  But you are right eyes are invaluable.   

Have re jigged the set up on my bike here in US and did 40 mile today - no ill effect.  Just need to get my tourer in UK set up the same. I think one of the problems is my posture towards the end of the day when getting tired, keep reminding myself to sit properly.  Tough life

One other possible thing for those with slipping glasses.  There is an outfit called Hidalgo's which sells mail order frames.  The neat thing is they also make up cable temples--the ear pieces like on the old Ray-Bans that fit around your ears, rather than clamp your skull.  I've bought all my frames from them for the last 20 years, since they're the only people I know of that still sell cable temples and I need them to keep my glasses from sliding down.  They also sell a lttle silicone gadget that fits over the end of normal ear pieces that will act as a loop around your ear (only $6.50 for that one), but I've not tried that since all my glasses have cable temples.
