Camp Shoe ideas????

Almost any mfr's "water socks" work well.
What I look for in a camp shoe: light (obvious), closed toe (don't want to deal with a torn toenail), easy on-off (for those late night relief walks), and quick-drying. But if you're walking miles off the bike, you owe it to yourself to carry appropriate footwear.

I do a show about supported bike touring and I strongly discourage flipflops. It's so easy to end a tour by damaging your exposed toes but the worst thing is the noise they make in camp at 2:00 AM when everyone is trying to sleep.

I just pack a pair of cheap Walmart black walking shoes - like track shoes but short like standard shoes. They are suitable for most any occasion. Being size 13 they take up most of my front right pannier but since my rear panniers are usually half empty (tent, sleeping bag and pad in a small duffle atop the rear rack) this doesn't matter. When I arrive at a camp site or motel the first thing I do is shuck my cycling shoes and put them on.

I used Wal Mart flip flops. i paid $2.50 for them and they were the best investment i made. they are light, bendable, compact, and allow you feet to air out at the end of the day. Jumping in a lake? just wear them in and wear them out. Did I say they are light?

Crocs weigh about 3/4 pound to a pound, lighter than some options and heavier than other options. But since the OP is concerned with volume over weight, the main advantage of waterproof footwear is that they can be strapped to the outside of your gear.

I have been watching this thread develop, because this information is also useful to myself. I would like to know what model of Tevas and Keens you guys are referring to. Both websites list dozens of possible options...

I use keen newports and have for years.  The main advantage, I think, is that they are so comfortable.  I can hike all day in them.
