2/11 Adventure Cyclist Mag Letters from Readers
« on: February 10, 2011, 12:10:40 pm »
The 2/11 edition of Adventure Cyclist Magazine just arrived in today's mail (you get it if you are a member of ACA, sponsor of this forum).

Here's one of the "Letters from our Readers":

E-Adventure Cyclist
I would like to be able to download a pdf file of the magazine each month and not receive a mail hard copy. Will this be possible?
Editor: Coming soon!

While I enjoy some of the advantages of the digital age, such as this forum, I fear that this could be my letter 10 years from now (if not sooner):

Old School-Adventure Cyclist
I would like to be able to receive a hard copy of your magazine printed on paper so that I can hold it in my hands. Will this be possible?

although I enjoy the majority of the aspects of digital downloads, there is just that good feeling of flipping through the pages of a magazine or book, and taking it with you in the car, or to the doctors office, or even lending it to a friend that you don't get with a digital download.

...or re-reading back issues over and over in the, ahem, reading room (bathroom). ;)

All the good things you say about paper, I agree with.  OTOH, if you're looking for one particular piece, it's easier to grep a .pdf than search through a stack of magazines!

Nerd Alert! Nerd Alert!  ;)

I'll take the hard copy any day over the soft copy, so please continue mailing me mine!   ;D

Speaking of this month's magazine. Anyone see the pic of the dude pulling a wheelie on the loaded bike? I'm thinking Photoshop, but that's me!!

PhotoShop or way too heavy in the rear packs  :)

Does not look like PhotoShop to me. If it was altered, the rider would have been looking straight down and his body posture would have been really low. Not impossible of course, but less likely. What the picture doesn't show is how many spokes he broke when his wheel landed.  :)

I thought this was going to be a discussion about the letter from the guy who wants the whole Wilderness to himself, gawd forbid the occasional biker passes him on the trail.

You can do all that with a kindle, nook, or ipad.  I actually prefer reading on my kindle, but grant that it isn't great for looking at pictures.  The ipad isn't as nice for reading, but is great for pictures.  I am sure that pretty soon there will be a device that excels at both.  I think that it is great that you can take all of your books magazines and documents with you in a device that is smaller and weighs less than a regular paperback.
