Motorbike riders out there?

Posters to a recent thread identified themselves as motorbike riders, in addition to doing the pedalbike thingy.

I was quite surprised at apparent # of you who are doing both motor and pedal biking.  Thought I might be the only one.  Obviously not!

So who of you are or have been motorcycle owners and what do ya ride?

My motorbike is Suzuki GSX650F (sport touring).

This caught my attention as well.  My most traveled MC was a KLR 650.  One month ago, i sold my remaining motorized steed, a Suzuki wee strom.  I'm planning a coast to coast this summer so the motorcycle wasn't getting any love anyway with my training. !

This will be my first long tour and i'm very curious how i feel about motorcycles when i return.  Heck, i may go car free too, who knows!

I am a long time m/c rider. I currently have a BMW R1150GS with a 10 gal tank.  I'm an Ironbutt Association member and have ridden many endurance rides.  My longest was traveling to 49 states in 8 days, 9 hours, 37 minutes.  The Association requires you to ride 1000 miles in 24 hours to be a member.  On the 49 state ride I rode over 1000 miles per day for 8 straight days.

I'm leaving on a slower but challenging transam ride on my Surly April 26 from Yorktown.  I'll be a few days past my 60th birthday when I leave.  Can't wait!!

Yep, me too. I have a Honda ST1300, a Guzzi Breva 750, and a Scarabeo 200 scooter. This is in addition to my commuter, road, and touring (bi)cycles. I guess I'm just addicted to being on two wheels!

Certainly is too small sample to make any kind of reliable conclusion from .... but it's interesting that those who have posted up are riding sport touring or "adventure" bikes.  Cruiser side of motorbiking not represented, at least not yet.

Another forum I spend too much time ;-) on is SportTouring.net (ST.n) and there's a bunch of cyclists over there.

Have considered selling the GSX because it's not going to be ridden much in the 2011 season ... I begin my Eugene-to-Boston pedaling adventure in June.  But hate to sell the bike when just finished mod'ing to my liking last year!  So will likely keep it, let stepson ride it regularly, and pray it's in one piece when I get home!

Odd man out here, my motorized 2 wheeler is a Motoguzzi Jackal. Deceptive looking standard as it has a cruiser look, but rides like a standard in the way it corners and flows. I like riding it as much as my bicycle. The best part is I can do all the work on it myself as it was designed for the back yard mechanic. Great bikes and one of the lucky few to have one.

Like all of us on this forum I loved bicycling. 9 years ago I had to quit riding becuase of a heart condition called atrial fib and because of that I switched to riding a Harley Davidson Electraglide. I guess I just needed to be on two wheels to feel more alive. I have the fib. under control with meds and was able to switch back to bicycling. The purest form of enjoyment for me is the relaxed freedom I feel while riding a bicycle but I cant ride everyday so thats when the HOG comes out of the garage. Its the best of both worlds.

I have been riding a motorcycle for about the same amount of time that I have been riding my bicycle.  Both of which I have taken and extended break from.  I had dusted off my desire to ride a motorbike after about 25 years and have just recently dusted off my Diamondback Ascent EX after almost 20 year break.  My son's Diamondback is in the garage on two flat tires like mine was until about four weeks ago.

I love to ride and recently decided that I didn't like where my life was headed and how I was going to arrive.  I as 54 years old and used to weigh 248.  I'm down to 224 now and am looking to continue to reduce my girth to a manageable size and I hope to fall in love with the open road at a slower pace while on my bike.

Today I completed a 14 mile ride to listen to the wind, the stream along the road, and the birds and dogs.  The road is a great place to experience life and I believe that the experience is more full and rich at 10mph rather than 60mph.  Don't get me wrong, I love to ride my Goldwing more than I liked my Harley but I just love to get outside and ride.  I am pleased to have rediscovered my bicycle and look forward to the idea of a big ride.  If'n I could simple tour Kentucky I would feel lucky.

Yup, I ride a motorbike and my bicycle and I love both.  I think I will like my bicycle more and I'm looking forward to discovering life again.

Yep.  My last motorcycle was a 1991 Kawasaki Vulcan 500.  Lots of great trips on that one, although the cornering clearance was really not to my liking.  But in the stable there has been:

• 1988 Honda VFR
• 1988 GSXR 750
• 1996 GSXR 750

I have a thing for carving mountain roads.  There will be something motorized in my future, but it's probably a few years off.

I'm fairly odd as well.  I'm a member of FSSNOC (four stroke singles national owners club) and have had a couple of KLR 650's an Ascot 500 and now a Buell P3.  I love my singles.  They keep me out of the trouble associated with going too fast.

I know where you are coming from - last year traded my Yammy XT660x supermoto for a little Yammy X-Max 250 scoot which I ride now. That XT660 was lovely  - short gear ranges mean it is on the power quickly - sticky tyres - great bike. The X-Max 250 is cool but just transport really.

I see Triumph have a new Tiger out. Hmmmmmm
