A bicycle touring survey - for fun and stats class
« on: February 16, 2011, 07:21:33 pm »
Hi all,

I'm doing a brief cycle touring survey in order to generate some data for a statistics class that I'm taking.

If you have ever been on a bike tour before, I'd greatly appreciated it if you could spare a few minutes to answer the questions at http://goingeast.questionpro.com/

I am hoping to see if there are any correlations between perceived training levels, length of tours, and blogging (among other things). This is far from an official survey, and the results will be just for fun and should not be taking seriously, but I'll do the full analysis and post it at http://goingeast.ca/blog in mid-April. The survey closes next Wednesday (February 23rd).

Thanks
Becky

Hi Becky,
Some feedback for ya, 2 questions I find confusing.

-1Compared with an average person,  How would you rate your pre-trip fitness level?
Far below average Below average Average Above average Well above average

How would you rate your pre-trip weight?
Far below average Below average Average Above average Well above average

Okay, 1st part seems to be asking is your fitness level better or worse than average. 2nd part is confuser: If I think that my weight is lower/better do I answer "Above average"? or does that mean that I think that my weight is actually above the average weight of other people???

-2 Another question asked how many nights I averaged camping or staying at budget hotels for under $15. Well I camped and stayed at budget hotels for most of the trip, but almost none of the campgrounds and absolutely none of the hotels cost under $15. Campgrounds averaged about $20-$25 and hotels were between $45 and $100.

I agree. They need to rewrite some of those questions.

How about---How many nights did you camp for free?

How many nights did you pay for a campground?  How much $ on average?

How many nights did you stay in motels. How much on average did you pay?

The question about weight is not quite specific enough, so I just clicked average.

Fun survey!

As far as staying places, campgrounds (15 nights) and hotels (2 nights) comprised the minority out of my 90 day trip this past spring. The balance was via couchsurfing/warmshowers, someone we would meet in town, stealth camping in the woods, and the occasional public park gazebo (often with permission).

Collapsing just off the side of the road came in at around 5 nights ;D
