Hwy 60 bypass between Superior and Apache Junct.?
« on: February 17, 2011, 10:24:58 am »
I've been reading that a stretch of Hwy 60 east of Phoenix is not good, specifically between Apache Junct. and Superior.  I found an article on Crazyguyonabike that discusses a paved/dirt option to much of it.  I've posted a question to her guest book, but no response.  Any forum users know that area?  I looked at Google maps and found that it should be possible to take E. Happy Camp to E. Hewitt Station Rd. and eventually to Queen Valley.  Any intel on these roads?  Decently graded dirt?  Constant sand? My wife and I will be going through that area in 2012 on loaded recumbent trikes.  Dirt roads are okay so long as they are not too rough or sandy.

Thanks!

Scott

Hi Scott,

You might want to contact the Arizona Bicycle and Pedestrian program with your question about US 60. They will know their resources and should be able to fill you in on the options/road conditions.

Let us know what you find out. We are always looking for ways to improve our routing.
