For Sale: Ultimate Surly LHT
« on: February 22, 2011, 06:27:10 pm »
Well, ultimate to me...and maybe you.

Need to sell my 2009 Surly Long Haul Trucker, and hoping to sell it as a complete bike. Here's the build details:

Frame/Fork:
- purchased new in 2009 (May), 50cm, professionally blasted & powder coated by Streetwerkz (CMH)
- color: metallic dark gray
- treated thoroughly with FrameSaver before being built
- condition: Good. Just a few knicks here and there from normal wear, but very well-cared for and always stored indoors when not being ridden

Wheelset:
- built by Peter White in summer 2009 (excellent condition)
- Front Hub/Wheel: Schmidt SON28 dynohub (black), laced to a 36-hole Mavic EX721 rim (black) with Wheelsmith DB 14-guage spokes (all black).
- Rear Hub/Wheel: Shimano XT hub (black) laced to a 36-hole Mavic EX721 rim (black) with Wheelsmith DB 14-guage spokes (all black). Shimano 9-speed cassette

Drivetrain:
Surly Mr. Whirly crankset (triple), with Salsa chainrings (all 3); XT front & rear derailluers; Shimano 9-speed chain (all in good condition—approximately 1000 miles on this drivetrain)

Other Parts:
- Schmidt Edelux headlight mounted to the Modolo handlebar with an R&M mount from Peter White (excellent condition)
- Integrated taillight that connects with the Edelux and attaches to rear rack—both the Edelux and taillight are powered from the SON28 front dynohub. Beautiful system that's had very little 'on' time.
- Surly Nice Racks (front and rear) (good condition—minor cosmetic blemishes)
- Thomson Elite seatpost and Thomson stem (excellent condition)
- King headset (excellent condition)
- Modolo Yuma Trekking butterfly handlebar (excellent condition)
- Paul Love Levers (brake levers) (excellent condition)
- Shimano bar-end shifters mounted to Paul Thumbies (excellent condition)
- Tektro brakes front and rear (same as Surly stock version but in black) (good condition—about 500 miles of wear on these pads)

Not included: pedals, saddle, and tank bag (it's been sold. See picture link below for reference).

This photo accurately represents the current build of the bike. As mentioned, that tank bag behind the stem has been sold, but I'd be glad to throw in that Arkel seat bag you see there. It's had some use, but it's still useful!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/cargonistas/3850768786/in/set-72157617092400912/

PRICE: $1400 for the above bicycle (minus pedals, saddle and tank bag), shipped to you in the continental United States. $1300 for local pickup in Central Ohio.

My buddies say this thing's built to ride through the Apocalypse. She weighs about 36 pounds with the Surly racks installed (about 30~31 without 'em), so not the lightest touring bike you can build. But 'bulletproof' with quality parts and very smooth to ride (I can go hands-free on it for a very long distance). The wheelset built by Peter White is his recommendation for heavy duty touring.

Nice Bicycle!!!! Heck the Schmidt Hub, Peter White Wheels, and Edel Lux Light alone are worth more than $500. How did you like that combination?

Loved it. The hub/light combo from Schmidt is so good, I repeated the build on another bike.

OK...a few things are gone, but I've pulled some parts from the original build and am offering the following bundle for $800, shipped to the lower 48:

Frame/Fork:
- purchased new in 2009 (May), 50cm, professionally blasted & powder coated by Streetwerkz (Columbus, Ohio)
- color: metallic dark gray
- treated thoroughly with FrameSaver before being built
- fenders (front and rear) included; excellent condition
- condition: Very good; A few knicks here and there from normal wear, but very well-cared for and always stored indoors

Wheelset:
- this is the original set that came with the complete build
- XT hubs (silver) front and rear, laced to Alex Adventurer 26" rims (silver), plus a Shimano 9-speed cassette
- excellent condition; about 100 miles of use

Drivetrain:
- Surly Mr. Whirly crankset (triple), with Salsa chainrings (all 3); good condition
- Shimano Tiagra front derailleur; very good condition
- Shimano XT rear derailleur; good condition
- Shimano XT 9-speed chain; good condition

Other Items:
- Surly Nice Rack (front)
- Surly Nice Rack (rear)
- Thomson Elite seatpost; 27.2 x 330mm
- Thomson stem: (excellent condition); 15º x 130mm x 25.4
- Modolo Yuma Trekking butterfly handlebar (very good condition); leaving the foam padding on the bar
- Tektro brakes, front & rear (silver); very good condition—about 100 miles of wear on the pads); + 4 unused pads
- Ritchey Comp headset; good condition
- spacers (silver); excellent condition
- 2 front cable hangers: one black, one silver; excellent condition
- bar tape, new in box
- tires, used, in good condition

Photos of everything, taken 13 March, are here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/cargonistas/sets/72157626256451840/with/5523058602/

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

What would you need to complete this bike?

1. Saddle
2. Brake Levers
3. Shifter Levers
4. Cables (brakes and shifters)
5. Pedals
6. Tubes

You might be thinking, Wait…by the time I buy that stuff I could probably just buy an LHT complete, and brand new?

You could, but it won't come with Surly Nice Racks—which run $120 EACH.
Or the Thomson Elite seatpost and Thomson stem.
Or the Surly Mr. Whirly triple crankset.

So you could argue that I'm not unloading this stuff at rock-bottom prices, but I am selling gear that's in very good-to-excellent condition at a fair price.

$800 for everything. And, shipping is included in the price (for shipping to the lower 48).

Whirly triple crankset.

For the others considering what he has to offer, I just thought I would let you know I have bought a few things from him and they have all been in excellent condition and ships quickly.  Since this isn't eBay with its feedback, I thought I would post this so everyone knows he is on the up and up.

My son is in Kettering.  If you're close he can swing by and pick up the frame, wheelset and maybe a few other things.

@bsmwyaz:

A few things have sold in the last two days, so I'm just catching up with this post. The wheelset, tires, silver hanger and both derailluers have been sold, so here's what's left:

Frame/Fork
Thomson stem
Thomson seatpost
Black cable hanger
Ritchey headset and spacers

Crankset might be spoken for but no one's committed, so...it's still for sale as of now.

I work close to Kettering (Cedarville) and would gladly meet you to sell any of the items you're interested in. Please let me know and thanks for the post.
