Hello,

We used the Garmin Edge 705, we now have the Garmin 800, along with the mapping program at www.ridewithgps.com to do a 13 country ten month long trip.  It was fantastic, we did not have any detailed maps for any of the journey.  Once we learned how the Garmin wanted to function we had no problems.  We used it to locate ATM machines, restaurants, lodging, well you get the picture.

the mapping program is great as it gives you the elevation and grade on the road that you choose to take.  Once you plot a route on ridewithgps simply upload it onto the Garmin Edge and away you go.  It does necessitate having the internet available to plot the next day's route.

The Edge also has a heart monitor and cadence sensor so you get all the info you want.
