Cycling North Carolina Barrier Islands
« on: June 24, 2011, 09:02:50 am »
We are planning a tour in North Carolina from Greenville, the barrier islands and returning to Greenville. We are looking for any advice. Is it better to ride North to South or the opposite? We are wondering about the wind. We are planning it in April in order to avoid the summer traffic challenges. In searching the web I find very little information about riding on the islands and a fair amount on the information is less than positive.

Thanks for your information.

It's generally better to ride the Outer Banks north to south. I have ridden south to north a few times and had to wait out or fight strong NE winds a couple of times. Once I had a southerly tailwind but it was considered unusual.
