warm weather winter routes?
« on: April 08, 2011, 09:30:20 pm »
Hi, I'm already thinking about next winter.  I'd like to do a 3-4 week tour in a warm part of the US.  Anyone had any experience doing the S cali - Arizona, TX route?  What is the weather like down there during Jan/Feb?  Also, anyone have any thoughts on the Florida routes?

You seem to be fixated on the US for some reason.  Portugal and Spain was my choice many years ago for a November tour.  Great weather.  If you are going to fly to the ride, flying domestic or international makes no difference.   Same outrageous cost.

"Warm" is a relative term. Nowhere in the US, except maybe Hawaii, is really warm in Jan.-Feb. You could hit freezing weather then even along the Gulf Coast. You'd have to bundle up for a California-Texas ride in winter even on the most southern route.

Of course, if you are a native of Alaska, Minnesota or some such place a southerly ride like this might seem warm to you. Good luck.

Weather on the Southern Tier (ST) is pretty variable during Jan-Feb.  It can be warm in spots and very cold in others.  This also the time when it rains and or snows in the mountains of CA, AZ, & NM.  I've run into snow outside of San Diego in early April.

It's summer in New Zealand and Australia that time of year.  It does cost a lot of money to get there.... but NZ is really great touring.
