Mississippi River Trail: any new improvements?
« on: April 13, 2011, 05:25:01 pm »
I'm contemplating doing the Mississippi River Trail or parts of it this summer. I already bought the guidebook, but I'm wondering if there has been recent work on some of the roads on the route. Reading through the book published 3 years ago , it seems like many of the roads roads have no shoulders, although traffic is supposedly light on them. Tips and advice on things along the way or the best side of the river to ride on would be greatly appreciated.

Reviving this thread.  Is this a paved trail, roads, or gravel?  I'm just curious what kind of bike would be best for it.

John,

I just did the section from New Orleans to Natchez and the roads were rough. Not sure if they always like that or just winter. I am riding a Surly Long Haul Trucker with 26".
