Pletscher Double Kickstand installation

I found the secret to the pletscher kickstand installation. See pictures on photo bucket. This is an installation on a Co-Motion tandem that had some challenges with cables and chainring but the same concept works. Purchase neoprene washers at hardware store (Ace Hardware) or body shop as they are used for automotive fenders. They protect the paint and keep the kickstand secure the first time. The pictures show a different bolt that I needed for a wider frame application. I’m now going to install this on my Surly.

This makes sense, thanks. I had the same kickstand as you, on my Comotion Norwest Tour. I had two problems, I kept bending the center bolt and I wish they would make rubber tips, for the end of the kickstand, that would not wear through. I saw a setup that Robenne had that I really liked. Same company, it had a rear kickstand and one that also attached to the Tubus Tara front rack.

I had Bilenky Cycles install kickstand plates on both my Santana tandem and triplet to make it easy to use the twin-legged kickstand. Ran me about $100 each, but well worth it, IMO. Rock-solid, no worries about crushing the chainstays, etc.

Others have also posted good results using the "Deluxe Top Plate" found online at http://www.thorusa.com/dahon/accessories/pletscher.htm. Comes with two plastic sleeves to protect the chainstay and a longer bolt. Looks like a good way to go, too.

Sugru is a moldable silicone that works wonders for this kind of thing, I just posted about keeping some in my repair kit. I just ordered a new Pletcher stand for my current LHT build, there is no doubt Ill be makinga Sugru "insert" to clamp onto/into.
