A Bridge Too Far

We are looking for a route to go across the Potomac from Maryland into Northern Virginia. We hope to cross somewhere in the Frederick, Maryland area but are unable to find a bicycle friendly bridge. Any ideas of potential crossing routes?

I have crossed the US15 bridge over the Potomac twice. It's not particularly bicycle friendly but is doable. However avoid US15 in northern Virginia. Unless they have much improved it in the past few years it is a very bad bicycling road - shoulderless and heavily trafficked. Get off it as soon as possible after entering Virginia. US15 in Maryland, on the other hand, is a fine bicycling road as I remember.

White's Ferry -
50 cents for cyclists, I think.

Access by back roads in Maryland.
Have to get on US 15 for a short stretch north of Leesville.
Leesville had really developed in the past 10 years.
What used to be back roads are now busy.
