Storms Destroying East Coast
« on: May 28, 2011, 01:56:45 pm »
You might already know this. Killer storms are tearing through the eastern seaboard. These are severe thuderstorms with rain, hail, and some tornadoes, and winds of over 60 mph. Deaths and flooding have been reported. The storm fronts reach from Vermont to Georgia. That covers most of the ACBR. I have been caught out unawares in storms of such magnitude. I now carry a weatherband radio. Just a heads up.

Haven't had it too bad in eastern PA and NJ, although there was a small tornado and a tiny earthquake that popped up on separate days last week here in Philly.  Could get some heavy thunderstorms tomorrow due to the 90+ degree heat and high humidity crept in yesterday.  So far, it's actually been more pleasant this year.  By this time last year we had already had several weeks with multiple days in the 90s.

Stop on by.  We are open for business.

Back in the 1970s I got caught out driving in a sudden unannounced severe storm around Allentown, PA. It was scary alright. It tore up large trees and damaged houses. I remember I drove in between two large red-brick buildings and prayed they would not be brought crashing down on me. I came through it OK. I have been caught out cycling when some lethal storms caught me unaware. Those were  sobering experiences.

Yes. I saw it on TV. How common or uncommon are tornadoes in Springfield, Mass?

I have lived here over 20 years and have never seen a tornado here in Springfield.
There was one a few years ago in the Berkshires

Yes, I think they had a tornado confirmed in great barrington (before I moved here).  I live in Pittsfield, MA and the storm went right over us with a heavy rains and t-storms but no tornados in the immediate area...
