It's bicycle touring season, and if you're riding any of the long distance, car free paths covered in

http://bicycletouringoncarfreepaths.org/

a non-commercial website by touring cyclists for touring cyclists, hope you'll use the site's Reader Suggestion pages to tell others about what you'd recommend or not -- particular campsites and B&Bs/motels, places with food beer and ice cream, and things to do along the way. Paths covered include the C&O Canal, Great Allegheny, Pine Creek Trail, P'tit Train du North, Greenbrier River Trail, and the Mickelson. And if you find information in need of updating or addtion on each path, hope you'll let us know.

Many thanks, and happy pedaling, Jeff

Love the bicycling resources page. And the photos are gorgeous! How about a map with the LBS locations along the trails in case of a cycling emergency?

trail maps are a great idea and would help touring bicyclists plan their trips.  i put the website together as a learning experience on a mac using iweb, and to be honest, i'm not sure how to add trail map pages.  two issues.  i'm not sure i can just copy maps i find on the web and post them without getting permissions.  second, not sure how to annotate the maps to show things like bike shops, if they aren't already included on the trail maps available online.  so advice much appreciated on maps.  and also, if you've ridden the paths on the website, hope you'll use the Rider Suggestions pages on each path to recommend/caution against  campsites, B&Bs, motels, restaurants, sights along the way, to help others plan their trips.  jeff

Depending on the platform you have, wordpress, joomla, etc., there are ready-made plugins and modules that you can us for the maps. You can integrate with googlemaps, and enter all the information. Just google the map plug-ins for your platform. Or, if you have $50 to $100 to spend, go to elance.com. You can post a project there - it is free, and have a programmer do it for you.
