It appears that the campgrounds in Pierre, SD are closed due to flooding. We are unsure how long this will continue, call campgrounds ahead to check status.

Jennifer,
I crossed the Missouri on I-90 at Chamberlain about 4:30 PM today. Lowlands are all still very much under water, from what we could see from the overlook and the bridge. I will be in Pierre Sunday night, and will report back again with what I find. Riding both the Lower Brule and Sharp Lake portions of the L&C next week, "if nothing prevents." (Like the weather.)

Proceeding on...

Hans,

Thanks for posting. I look forward to hearing a more recent report. These situations can change quickly.

Much of the Pierre/Ft.Pierre waterfront is under water and still sandbagged, but the river is receding. Parks and campgrounds are still closed on the Missouri. The Iron Nation campground, NW of West Brule, is open. The entire route from Ft. Thompson to Pierre is open an passable.

The campground at Ft. Thompson Dam is also under water, and will probably be closed for a while after the water recedes, to repair damage.

In Sioux City, the Gateway Trail and Chris Larsen Park are closed due to damage from flooding earlier this spring. You will need to navigate through the city. We don't have specifics as of yet but will post them when we do.
