Need advice from Pacific coast to South
« on: August 10, 2011, 11:34:00 pm »
I have never been there. So I need advice.

I attached route.

Start from San Francisco through Pacific coast, LA, Las Vegas, Grand canyon and South on Sep.

I have a plan to travel for two months in USA with bicycle. After then go to the south.

I am female and looking for partner who travels witn me in USA. But It's not easy to find partner. So I can travel just myself in USA. After then I will meet my partner in Mexico border. I want to go through Tucson. But My partner want to meet me in San Diego. So I have two routes from grand canyon.

How do you think my route?

From San Francisco to Grand Canyon

From Grand Canyon to Tucson
From Grand Canyon to San Diego

I heard that Mexico border is dangerous. How is near Tucson? How is near Sand Diego?

You could ride the Western Express, the Grand Canyon Connector, and the Southern Tier. See the map at http://www.adventurecycling.org/routes/RouteNetwork.pdf. This is not easy riding. I would not recommend it for a first tour. Have you some experience and some comfort with long tours?

This question has had much discussion here. To find a great many opinions and a few facts, go back to the Forum main page (click the HOME tab just above your message) and enter Mexican into the search box.

The route looks just fine. As for the issue of safety, it is partly a matter of chance. Bad things happen every day to people in this country and around the world. You live your life and you take your chances. You should be OK. If anything seems suspicious, get away ASAP.
