Miami Airport or Orlando Airport
« on: October 11, 2011, 05:29:36 pm »
Hi, I have booked to cycle the Southern Tier, supported, with ACA next March/May. As I live in the UK I am looking at flights.  Getting to San Diego start is ok but I need advise for finishing.   I can try to get me, bike, 2 bags to Orlando Airport from St Augustine, about 100 miles, or go to Jacksonville Airport, 53 miles. Unlike Orlando, which would be a direct flight, if I use Jacksonville I would have to change at Miami Airport and would have 1 hr 23 min to catch my connecting London flight.  Would you recommend Orlando or Jacksonville and if Jacksonville would I have enough flight change time in Miami.

My feeling is any connection you don't have to make is one you can't miss.  I'd use Orlando just for the simplicity.

I a little surprised the airline would sell you a ticket with an international connection that short.  I'd thought they recommended 2 hrs. minimum connection time for international flights.

Have you looked for limo or shuttle services going into Orlando?

If you're flying with your bike, you don't really want to give the baggage handlers any extra opportunities to throw it around.

Hi,
Have contacted LBS in St Augustine who will pack my bike for air flight. Air Shuttle company will pick me and baggage up
and deposit all at Orlando Airport.  Bit costly but worth it for peace of mind. Sorted.  Thanks all for advise.
