Bicycle travel after Irene in VT

I have plans to be touring the green mountains in two weeks.  I hear vermont is getting nailed with flooding.  Is anyone actually there to give me an update on how the flooding really is and what the routes are looking like.  I saw that even the UPS site has suspended a lot of shipping routes there in VT.  If anyone has information it would be helpful.

I'd be suspect of every USFS road (aka dirt road) too...   

lots of flooding down in the southern vt area, between Bennington-Wilmington-Brattleboro.....

The link that Jay posted is the source of road information in Vermont. I see that many of the announcements are dated yesterday afternoon, when things were at their worst. The person who takes care of the web site has probably been awake for two days, so I am ready to give them some slack.

As you see, most of the damage is in the southern and central parts of Vermont. The small rivers are going down fast, but the big ones--Winooski, Lamoille, and Connecticut--will take a few days. I think northern Vermont will be good riding by tomorrow, and the VTrans web site should catch up to give you a good look.

Thanks for this thread guys. I'm from southern California and planning to do a long anticipated Green Mt.s Loop tour - flights booked etc for last two weeks in September. Wasn't sure what to do but sounds like I might be okay by then. I'll check back in case anyone can add some info but I have that DOT page linked. From what I can see it seems some of the northern road closures effect the southern tip of the loop - have to match the maps to closures still to be sure. Cheers.

The ACA Green Mts Loop is basically shut down on map 9 - after Rochester where one would cross the Green mt Forest on highway 125 to Middlebury. That seems to be the only place the loop is affected but it cuts out the whole southern portion because options further south are also closed. I have emailed a bike shop in Rochester and one in Middlebury in the hopes of getting e feel for 'how closed' 125 is but in the meantime planning to cross from St. Johnsbury through Montpelier to Bristol and then Middlebury. If anyone knows this road it would great to hear what kind of a leg it is - busy/quiet etc.
