DA Class of '83.  Saw video posted on Facebook. Reminded me of a few spring floods caused by quick snow melt. One year a teacher took his boat out and caught a fish on the athletic fields down by the river.

I hiked ascutney on Friday on the way to the White mountains for Flags on the 48, but I heard on the way up that VT is going to open Rt 4 this coming weekend (Sept 17th ish)... and I heard that Rt 9 between Brattleboro and Bennington was going to open this past weekend but the e-sign was still up on Rt 9 from Keene, NH that Rt 9 west was closed by Brattleboro.. so not sure if that happened...

Hi JayH -

Drove Rte 4 from Rutland to New Hampshire and back yesterday and today.  The road is in good condition although there are sections where there is no shoulder for  couple of 1/2 mile sections.  Traffic is not racing and people are gawking alot at the remnants of the high water.  Going east, the climb is reasonable the entire way with the last mile steeper.  The road going westbound has two pretty steep climbs with a section of flat to recover.  If it were me, I would rather ride eastbound from Rutland.

The amount of road construction and repair is extensive and the work that has been completed is impressive.  Amongst everything else, the most impressive example of water hydraulics is the remains of a bridge along side the river after it was completely swept from its footings.

One of my favorite restaurants from college days, The Outback Saloon, in Bridgewater appears to have survived.

Thanks Paul, I am kind of postponing my trip to next year, it's getting colder now so rather not bring any cold weather gear and my window of vacation is somewhat over anyway..

Next year, I imagine it will get a lot better.. maybe the cross vt trail will be fixed too, I think parts of that were just about recovered from the spring and winter before Irene/lee
