San Diego to Phoenix in January

I need some info on lodging and weather conditions for my trip from San Diego to Phoenix this coming January.

January is the cold wet time for this area.  It is possible that you will encounter snow as you climb out of San Diego.  Once you get over the summit it will warm up but may still be cold and wet.  You find hotels in Alpine and then again in El Centro.  When you leave El Centro you won't find a hotel until you get to Blythe.  There are several small towns along the route to Phoenix that have small hotels.
