Garmin error message
« on: September 25, 2011, 10:30:23 am »
I have a Vista HCX and have inserted a GB topo card.  It shows as much as I'd expect but when trying to get it to take me somewhere, I got the message  "route calculation error: no roads near destination" even though the road shows on the map on the screen and I know it really exists.

My Euro, non-topo will direct me when I insert that card.

Is the GB one capable of providing a route, as requested and if so, what do I need to do to make it work?

You do not say exactly which GB Topo card you have. I looked up "TOPO Great Britain, Northern England & the Midlands" on the Garmin web site and see that it does not support turn-by-turn routing. For that, you need a road map like "City Navigator® Europe NT – U.K. & Ireland." Your Vista is probably trying to use its built-in base map instead, which may not cover Great Britain at all, and failing.

Thanks Fred, that answers my question.
