Strava as GPS device
« on: July 18, 2017, 12:37:02 pm »
I would like to download the routes into Strava, as that provides me with a simple method of moving the routes from one GPS device to another. I use my smartphone to navigate, using the strava app.

When I try to import the sample route data into Strava, I get an error. Each of the 3 gpx files fail. The process I used loads the routes on a PC (through a web browser connected to the strava website).

Any help would be appreciated.

Strava requires that uploaded files include time information so that they can determine time and speed on segments. The Adventure Cycling Association digital data files do not include time information as they are not based on a single individual's recorded activity. Strava does not support .GPX files without timing data. More info is available here:

adding time stamps worked.
I used http://gotoes.org/strava/Add_Timestamps_To_GPX.php

After doing that, I learned a little about the difference between gps tracks (what the sample file has) and gps routes (based on waypoints at intersections). Turns out what I want is routes ... so that I get turn by turn directions from my gps. Guess I will go back to entering the waypoints from the cue sheets on the paper maps

Thanks
