Natchez Trace Maps
« on: October 02, 2011, 09:50:38 am »
Where could I buy a full map of the Natchez Trace ?
I realize there are plenty of places to download online, however I can't seen to find anyone selling one for cyclist.
Thanks for any help.

Adventure Cycling covers parts, and here http://www.natcheztracetravel.com/biking-the-trace.html are links to many cycling-specific maps and directions for the Trace.

I have http://www.horseshoepub.org/images/joe/natchez_trace.jpgthese from 1991, one was obviously done by ACA (Bikecentennial)  even though it says National Park Service on it. The other two are from thee Tennessee Tourism Development and the National Park Service.

Yes they are 20 years old but it might be a good base if nothing else is available, you would just have to do some homework and create your own addenda for them.

If you want them send me an email at bieniecki@gmail.com and I'll mail them out to you, no charge..

It's a national park, so poking around the web site you can find http://www.nps.gov/natr/planyourvisit/bicyclinghome.htm.  Also note the Natchez Trace Parkway Maps link on the left side...

ACA's Great Rivers South map sections 2 and 3 shows routing on the Natchez Trace with the exception of the northernmost 40 miles. You could start in Nashville and then at about mile 40 on the Trace you can use these maps for the remainder of the Trace to Natchez.

"Guide to the Natchez Trace Parkway" by F. Lynne Bachleda is very comprehensive - has all the information you could need, including superb maps. It's available from amazon.com.

If you are interested in buying any books, I have two that I would sell at a very reasonable price.
'Bicycling the Natchez Trace', by Glen Wanner (1997)
'Traveling the Trace: a complete tour guide to the historic Natchez Trace from Nashville to Natchez', by Cathy and Vernon Summerlin (1995)

Let me know if you have any interest.

Here's a list of sites for water and food and such:

http://www.natcheztracetravel.com/biking-the-trace/water-and-markets.html

When I biked the trace last summer I had a map with all of the state parks, bike camps, rest stops, and water spots. I think I picked it up at my start in Natchez, but you should try e-mailing or calling the Natchez Trace visitor centor in Tupelo, MS. It was a little green brochure with an excellent map. I'm sure they'd be happy to send you one for free. I didn't buy a map or book, or anything. That little map/brochure is all you need.

If they can't send you one, I can always scan mine and e-mail it to you. :)

Have fun on your trip!
