Hello,

I am planning some bicycle trips.  I would like to know is there any software where I can put in my general route and dates to be in certain spots and the software would print out how I could vary the route or the date of a certain destination to take advantage of local attractions that only happen on certain days.  For example say I am going from Austin, Tx to Yellowstone.  I would like to see as many neat events roughly along the way as possible.

Apple's Siri running on an iPhone4s is about as close to this as I can imagine.
Interesting quest but I think you're pretty much on your own, painstakingly researching the festival and event listings on state and regional and individual city and town websites. Newspapers have regional calendars but the information you receive is only as good as the information local organizers have put it.

Hoe you get some useful suggestions.

I'd agree that painstaking research may be your route on this one.  To make that easier I'd suggest you contact the local chambers of commerce or tourist boards for festivals and the like.  Perhaps contacting local bike clubs for best routes to these events - should they require you to stray from your overall course - would likely also be helpful.  Many local boards place that info online anyway, so that could make this easier in one sense.  The local bike club in these parts has posted online cue sheets for routes all over the county - that could help on the second piece. +1. In researching out last two trips, I was surprised to find a good number of chamber of commerce/tourist board/organization web sites. They often had calendars listing local events/celebrations. They can also be a good place to find lists of nearby accomodations, including campgrounds, as well as other services like grocery stores.
